FAQs on Seals
What is the difference between single-lip and double-lip sealing rings?
Single-lip sealing rings have a rubber-sheathed steel reinforcement with a rubber shaft profile for rigidity. Double-lip sealing rings have both a sealing lip and a protective lip. They prevent contamination from entering and grease from escaping.
Which sealing solution is best for deep groove ball bearings in food production?
Depending on the requirements and environment, we recommend RSR, RS or HRS seals for the very frequently used deep groove ball bearings in food production:
Sealing washers with radial contact or RSR sealing washers offer a balanced ratio between friction and sealing effect. They are suitable for moist environments.
Contact labyrinth seals or HRS seals have an optimal seal lip geometry. Very tight tolerances enable the rolling bearings to have a long operating life.
What is the difference between contact and contactless seals?
Contact seals provide better protection than contactless gap seals. This is due to the different designs: Contact seals are in contact with the sliding surface. Especially at high rotational speeds of the bearing, however, this generates heat. Energy is lost as a result.
On the other hand, contactless seals leave a small gap between the seal and the mating surface which means there is no friction but the seal is less efficient. Depending on the requirements, contactless sealing may be an adequate and sensible solution.
